History of Johnny RocketsJohnny Rockets is a small, company owned fast casual burger chain with over 320 locations in the United States. The original Johnny Rockets restaurant was opened in 1986 by Ronn Teitelbaum in Los Angeles. Located on the famous Melrose Avenue, the restaurant only seated 20 at a counter. Teitelbaum designed the restaurant to recreate the classic malt shops of his 1940s childhood without falling into gimmicks or cheesy replication. The chain spread slowly as visitors from other states fell in love with the unique atmosphere and tasty burgers of the Los Angeles location and wanted to enjoy them in their home states.

While most other hamburger chains expanded by opening to franchisees at some point, the parent company retains full control and rights over all Johnny Rockets locations. This has led to a 300 plus restaurant chain that is very consistent in their food, service and décor whether a location is in New York or Texas. Since the early 2000s the chain has won numerous awards for their family friendly atmosphere, inexpensive but quality burgers and crispy fries. Citysearch still ranks the chain as one of the top 10 in the nation for categories like “Cheap Eats” and “Best Hamburger”.
